AUTHOR’S NOTES

September 2005

Well, it looks and feels like fall has arrived to my part of Maine. Though the days have been warm when the sun shines, the nights have been cold – I had to add a blanket to my bed this week. From my computer in my art loft, I can see red and orange leaves way up at the top of my beautiful birch trees surrounding my back yard. My gorgeous sugar maple in the front yard is still predominantly green, but it won’t be for much longer. The colder the nights we have, the quicker the leaves turn.

The big news for me this month is that my art loft is finally finished – wood work
& trim, painted floor, furniture set up – it is now a multipurpose, beautiful space just for me! A tv free zone with hand painted floral and fauna murals and sweet little fairies hidden in plain sight throughout the space. Work tables line the walls of one half of the room, organizing my vast array of art and craft supplies and a comfortable futon complete with Tinkerbell sheets and comforter gives me a
great place for a little snooze when I can’t keep my eyes open a minute longer.
It is the perfect place for me to write, create, and re-energize.

May 2005

If I’d thought that April went by quickly, May seems to be going by even faster!

Although it is considered very early by Maine standards, my 7 flower beds are done – put a big red “DONE” stamp on each of those beauties! To keep the
peonies, red sedums, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, hostas, rhododendrons,
azaleas, and oriental lilies company, I’ve added violas, Forget-Me-Nots (for my late father), Painted Daisy’s and lots and lots of pansies (my very favorites). Be sure to check out the photos in the Family photo section.

Mother’s Day was a quiet, uneventful day, which was exactly what I’d hoped for. My weekdays can get so hectic that a quiet Sunday at home in my pj’s all day is very welcome. As usual, my men spoiled me. Following dad’s example, Ian chose some very pretty pieces of jewelry for me, and Evan made me a bejeweled flower pot, perfect for the African violet the boys bought to put in it. The card Evan
made for me is truly “frame worthy” – you can check out both the card & flower pot in the Family Photos section.

May will also find me visiting Anaheim, CA with Ian and Jonathan. Evan will be “holding down the fort”, and hopefully keeping those rambunctious pets, especially our dog Tucker, in line. More info and photos of that adventure will show up next month. Talk to you then….

April 2005

We sure have had the April showers, but from the size of the snow mounds covering my tulip and daffodil beds, we’ll need to build an ark before I’ll see the end of that snow mountain!

Until I can get out and play in my gardens, I will be working on a scrapbook showing Evan through the years via photographs. When I give a presentation or am a vendor at a conference, I’ll often pass around a photo album that I’d created for his 10th birthday bash. That album with its plastic sheets is starting to look rather dog-eared so I thought that now was the time to make a change. I can only manage to complete 1 or 2 pages a day; otherwise I’ll be naughty and just scrapbook all day long!
